Duke of Edinburgh Award
The world's leading youth achievement programme, building resilience, confidence, and independence.
Empowering the Leaders of Tomorrow
At Surabaya European School, we believe education extends far beyond the classroom. We are proud to offer The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, the world's leading youth achievement programme. Recognised globally by universities and employers, this award challenges young people to discover their full potential, building the resilience, confidence, and independence required to thrive in a modern world.
How It Works
Available to students aged 14 and over, the Award is a personal journey of self-discovery, not a competition against others. Participants design their own programme, setting personal goals and pushing their boundaries across three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
To achieve an Award, students must show commitment and improvement in four key sections:
- Voluntary Service: engaging with the community and making a positive difference.
- Physical Recreation: improving fitness and wellbeing through sport or physical activity.
- Skills: developing personal interests or practical talents, from music to coding.
- Adventurous Journey: cultivating a spirit of adventure and teamwork through an expedition or exploration.
At the Gold level, participants also complete a Residential Project, which involves staying away from home to work with new people on a shared activity, further broadening their horizons.
Support and Mentorship
Our dedicated teachers serve as Award Leaders and mentors, guiding students through every step of their journey. They facilitate the planning process, offer encouragement during challenges, and ensure each student reflects on their progress. Upon completion, students receive an internationally recognised certificate and medalβa testament to their dedication, soft skills, and social responsibility.
