Beyond the Classroom

Enriching Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Surabaya European School, we believe outstanding education extends far beyond textbooks and traditional lessons. Programmes are carefully curated to engage students in experiential learning, cultivate life skills, and inspire confidence on a global stage. These programs are designed to complement our rigorous academic curriculum, foster curiosity, creativity, and leadership, and help students discover their true potential.

Programmes

Duke of Edinburgh International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award gives SES students the chance to challenge themselves far beyond the classroom. Through service, skill development, physical activity and adventurous journeys, students learn to set goals, build resilience and take responsibility for their own growth.

World Scholar's Cup

World Scholar's Cup is a team-based academic competition where our students explore big ideas, debate, write, solve challenges and work together. It helps participants develop critical thinking skills, learn across different subjects and connect with students from other schools and countries.

Music, Art & Drama

We have a passion for the arts at SES, and our yearly productions are important focal points for our community. Our arts programme gives students the chance to explore their creativity through music, visual art and drama. Whether performing, creating, presenting or working behind the scenes, students develop confidence, imagination and an appreciation of different forms of expression.

Community Service & Environmental Awareness

At SES, we care about the world around us and encourage our students to contribute positively to the community around them. Through service efforts and environmental initiatives, students learn to care for others, take practical action and understand that they can make a difference.

After School Activities

Our After School Activities programme gives students opportunities to explore new interests beyond the school day. Offerings are updated regularly based on student interest and can include activities such as football, basketball, tennis, chess, flower arranging, photography, coding and cooking.

Student Leadership

As a small school community from Montessori to Secondary School, students have many opportunities to develop leadership skills. Students can take on responsibilities through House Captain roles, Student Council, The Tiger Post newspaper, peer mentorship and a growing range of student-led initiatives. Through these experiences, they learn to share their ideas, take initiative and contribute to school life.

The experiences SES offers outside the classroom help create a vibrant, positive school environment where students develop confidence, independence, creativity, teamwork and a stronger sense of community. The chance to try new activities also encourages students to develop a growth mindset as they prepare for future challenges and opportunities.

Each of these programs enriches the school experience and reflects our commitment to developing well-rounded global citizens who are ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow with confidence and compassion.
